Message from the LCIA President (June 2018)

Rob Pattermann – LCIA President

Summer has officially arrived! As we greet the warmth and sunshine of summer, it’s great to see the activity level and “fun” at the lake increase as well.

This newsletter is a first! The July 2018 newsletter has been sent out electronically only. We will be trying this only for the month of July. Please remember that our August and September newsletter will again be mailed (or sent electronically if you prefer) to LCIA members only.

At our first LCIA general meeting on Saturday, May 26, we gave updates on our projects and other items of interest impacting property owners on the lake. In addition, LCIA members voted unanimously to increase our member dues from $40 to $50. This increase will take effect for membership year 2019.

The board announced it’s intention to begin fund raising for the paving of the parking lot and continue the final phase of the landscaping project at the Community Center. For the paving project, we have set a fund raising goal of $25,000 to “GO PAVE ME! Many of you have asked why we felt there was a need to prioritize this goal.

Some of the reasons we felt this is important are listed below:

1. Paving of our LCCC parking lot will represent the final phase of our Lake Cavanaugh community center construction project.

2. Paving would allow us to have a additional space for our outdoor LCIA & community events such as dances, the craft fair, & rummage sales.

3. Additional “hard” surface parking can increase the “attractive” nature of our facility as a rental space for special events such as weddings, memorials, birthday & anniversary parties.

4. Long term decreased maintenance costs as we will no longer deal with issues such as potholes, spraying gravel and other problems brought about from gravel parking.
With over $2,380 already raised for this project, donations may be sent to Matt Douglas, LCIA Treasurer; 33561 S. Shore Dr; Mount Vernon, WA 98274

As stated, we will NOT begin this project until all funds are raised, your questions are answered and a vote of our membership is approved.

Your LCIA continues to monitor the progress of the county SMP (Shoreline Management Project) and other issues that may impact our property owners at Lake Cavanaugh. Updates when available, will be posted on our website and be a part of our general meetings.

We had wonderful participation at our “Spring Into Summer” with live big band jazz music by the Skagit Swings Jazz ensemble. Over sixty people enjoyed the live music at the community center. What a great way to “kick off” our summer fun at Lake Cavanaugh.

As we come into the Fourth of July holiday, enjoy the parade either as a participant or an observer and remember that it is followed by an Ice Cream Social!

Finally, we want to again encourage all area residents to join the LCIA. The strength of our numbers keeps us a viable community voice when dealing with matters of mutual concern either with the county or that otherwise impact us all at Lake Cavanaugh.

Have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July!

See you at the lake!
